Shailene Woodley, divergent and the fault in our stars?

Shailene Woodley, Why is she the lead in divergent and the fault in our stars?

Negative think:

She is not that pretty. Her acting is tasteless as water and I don't find her spectacularly talented either. She does her job but you could just switch her with a supporting actress (for ex if Christina's actress act as Beatrice and she becomes Christina instead) and it won't affect my view of the film overall.

I have seen Shailene in The Secret Life of an American Teenager and she was terrible, and from what I've seen of the Divergent and The Fault in Our Stars trailers, she hasn't gained any charisma since then.

I've only seen Shailene Woodley in Divergent and I too seem to miss whatever it is that makes her a hot property. Further, I found her bad nose job extremely distracting and was more focused on that than the film.

Woodley isn't quite Lawrence in Divergent, but after Fault in Our Stars I'm expecting more - what's the word I want here - from her in Insurgent.

Since when was the lead in The Fault in Our Stars supposed to be a great beauty? Shailene Woodley's dying of an incurable disease!

Positive thinks:

Those are not Shailene Woodley's best movies. Maybe you should watch Spectacular Now and then make up your mind. She's really pretty and a good actress and talent etc.

I had no idea who Shailene Woodley was before seeing Divergent. I was so impressed by her in it that I watched The Descendants and The Spectacular Now to see more of her work. I'm also really looking forward to seeing her in Stars and White Bird in a Blizzard.

And I like her acting, I mean with her role in American Teen Life or whatever it's called yeah Shailene Woodley got pegged with the ABC gene, but she's trying to get out of that like Disney stars that do the same thing. She has the talent to pull them off I think she's just a little more subtle hah. Watched Divergent and she did a fine job. Kind of like in that movie, she's underestimated.

1.) Beauty truly is in the eye of the beholder. Some may find a particular person gorgeous while another thinks that they are nothing. Shailene as Tris makes sense even though she is not as small. Actors and actresses are not all supposed to conform to the ideal beauty. Sometimes it has to do with their part. But Shailene fits the part of Tris through and through.

2.) Actors and actresses do what they are told to do. They act how they are directed. They have no say really in what makes the final cut. They just act.

3.) Shailene is actually a great actress. I first saw her in True Life of An American Teenager. She was beautiful, but her acting was stale. BUT... all of the others were stale too. I notice that with the same writers. The actors talk hurriedly and without emotion.

4.) If you read the Divergent series and TFIOS then you would see how Shai truy brings those characters to life. I don't normally cry... but she brought tears to my eyes with both parts.

Shailene Woodley is very pretty, and she's a talented actress, is a wonderfully talented actress and she brings both books to life. She has amazing character and is gorgeousI like that, she's not ultra thin; she's a realistic role model for girls, as far as appearances go. She's not ugly AT ALL, maybe a bit plain. But there's nothing wrong with that. Maybe Shailene Woodley is banging for parts like Kristen Stewart. She doesn't seem to have any connected parents or Jew connections. So it seems like she just got lucky.

I don't think Shailene Woodley's hit her stride yet, but I definitely think she has the chops. Divergent was ok for the type of movie it was and she did ok. She did fine in Fault in a more dramatic role though and made it feel real. I definitely disagree on her being unattractive though - I think she's fine as hell.

You don't get the lead in a coveted movie because you have rich parents (there are Oscar winning A listers that have been turned down for roles) and being the child of a famous person often works against an actor (it would be hard to get the studio/director/media to know if they like you or your connection).

It's not like she suddenly hit it big. She's been in the business for most of her life. In the early 2000s she played young Kaitlin in season one of The OC and young Jordan on Crossing Jordan.

Hazel in The Fault in our Stars isn't supposed to be a knockout. She's supposed to be average looking, maybe even slightly below average since the character is battling a deadly disease and despite how many tv shows/movies portray that, it doesn't make you look like a supermodel.

Caught "The Fault if Our Stars" on DVD. Before the film, there were all those previews DVDs have, and one was for "If I Stay," which starred Chloƫ Grace Moretz, who I like well enough. Shailene Woodley was great in Fault in our stars

While watching the film, I found Woodley's performance quite moving and, probably because I'd just seen her in the previews, thought of Moretz in the role, and I just couldn't see it. Woodley really owned the role for me. I thought she did a fantastic job and can't really think of anyone who could have done it better. (Btw, I'm not bashing Moretz here. I'm thinking that we haven't seen the best of her yet, and it's not like she's bad now, but when competing for roles against Woodley and Lawrence, she needs to step it up a little.)

Shailene Woodley can open her eyes widely. That is the only thing I see her doing. When I watched Divergence all I could do was think about how great Jennifer Lawrence would have been in that part. I was hoping they would change her for "Insurgence". They didn't.

If you haven't seen her in The Descendants then don't say anything, she is beautiful and should have been nominated for an oscar for that peformance. Go watch Transformers 3 if you want to see models act.
