Spec's have changed on item but not on web site !! August 12, 2008 2 out of 5 found this review helpful
Ordered this based on reviews plus specs on the Samsung web site. Even downloaded the users guide to confirm capabilities. When received the item noticed there was no slot on the frame for the XD cards (which is what our camera uses). Called their tech support. They were not aware of change to spec and said there must be a shared input slot that took the XD card ! I was dubious, but continued to set up and install the item. Noticed that the manual on the CD sent with the item was different than the one on their web site and did NOT include XD card support. A subsequent call to a different tech support person confirmed that XD is no longer supported - though none of their documentation on line reflects this even today !!!
Also their documentation of downloading pictures from the PC was confusing. Finally got it working and picture quality was excellent. However, due to lack of XD support, had to return the item.
Most attractive digital frame July 27, 2008 3 out of 3 found this review helpful
Very slick design- looks like a little monitor rather than a quasi-photo frame. The stand is much sturdier than a photo frame's. The internal memory is ample and a worthwhile feature. Samsung, as always, has minimal instructions. It helps to be experienced with photo editing and the use of external drives. The mini-monitor option is cute, of no apparent value, and does not work with Vista. I have not been able to operate the timer on/off feature. The photos are crisp, transition options are nice. Directional button is somewhat stiff and awkward to use- a gentler touch seems to be the trick.
Product cannot display certain jpeg files June 28, 2008 2 out of 4 found this review helpful
The Samsung SPF-83H frame is disappointing. Although it has good resolution it cannot open and display a substantial subset of my .jpeg picture files. This is independent of aspect, resolution, file size, whether the file is loaded directly into the frame's internal memory or resides on a compact flash card, the software used to edit the pictures and the camera used to take the pictures. Attempts to modify these files to change the parameters mentioned above plus cropping or other editing parameters did not cause the files to be opened by the frame. I am returning the product and looking elsewhere for a good frame.
Best Yet December 7, 2007 57 out of 59 found this review helpful
The SPF-83H is the best digital frame I have used so far.
There are several things this frame has going for it:
4:3 - this spec cannot be overstated. Most if not every photo you have is probably 4:3 as compared to 16:9 (wide screen). 16:9 screens are more common at this size because portable DVD players also use 16:9.
800X600 - pictures look sharp and clear
Brightness and viewing angle - the screen is very bright and can be viewed at most angles without a noticeable loss in brightness.
Size and build quality - this frame is not bulky or cheap looking. The frame is very compact and looks clean sitting on a counter top or table. Many of the digital frames out there are fairly thick.
The SPF-83H is a bit more expensive than some of the other digital frames of this size, but don't let a slight price difference scare you away from arguably the best 8" frame on the market.
The only other digital frame I would buy in this category would be the SPF-83V. Basically the same frame but with a wireless network adapter embedded in the frame. This allows the user to subscribe the frame to an RSS feed on many of the popular photo sharing sites. Any time a users updates their photo site the pictures are automatically downloaded to the frame!
