Editorial Reviews:

Product Description
The DR-467 Digital Rucksack features a unique TST RIB structural protection for two Pro D/SLR bodies with mounted lens, 3-4 lenses, flash, accessories, a laptop and personal gear. By removing the padded bottom camera insert you can easily convert this rucksack from a camera bag to a daypack when not shooting. The main compartment holds a D/SLR in top grip position while the modular dividers system will separate, organize and protect lenses, flashes and other accessories to suit your particular needs. The dedicated padded laptop compartment will hold and protect up to a 17" laptop. The large top compartment will hold personal gear or additional equipment, and the internal pockets and mp3 player pouch will allow you to organize your personal effects as efficiently as your photographic gear. Ample external pockets allow quick zippered access to supplies and a water bottle/ tripod support pocket pulls out from a side pocket. Included rain cover folds neatly away into an integrated pocket and can be hung out to dry on the small buckle next to the handle, or tucked away for storage in one of thepockets. When carrying, a chest belt and balancing waist strap are available for ultimatecomfort, and the rucksack is also compatible with the Kata Insertrolley if wheel along transportation is needed.

4 out of 5 stars Kata Backpack   January 6, 2009
Love it, I would give it 5 stars if it didnt have the useless mesh pocket on the side. Holds my D90 and extra lenses and assorted goodies with room to spare. Seperate upper section to keep your lunch from tasting like camera.

5 out of 5 stars PERFECT!   January 3, 2009
I am a DSLR newbie, and purchased this bag for my Canon XS (Canon EF-S 18-55mm IS Lens + Tamron 70-300mm Di LD Macro Lens). There is plenty of room for the camera, lenses, my JVC Mini-DV camcorder and a ton over other stuff. I plan on leaving my laptop at work or home when traveling, so I will have even more storage for tickets, documentation, magazines and whatever else I can fit in. I will not bother describing the many other features of this product, since they have been well documented in ratings from others. This bag is perfect for my needs.

4 out of 5 stars Smaller than it looks...   December 23, 2008

Nice bag, very cool setup, just smaller than it looks. No way a Pro Body or Body with grip will fit...well you could jam it in there but it takes up most of the bottom that way. The flip out design is nice but I think does limit space somewhat compared to the traditional way. Other than that a nice bag, great if you have a D40/60 etc and a few kit lenses... Straps are comfortable, padding is good, enough room in the top for more lenses or lunch or light jacket, accy's, etc.

If you are looking for a bit more storage without jumping into the full lowepro trekker or tamrac expedition lines, check out the lowepro aero and tamrac adventure series...

4 out of 5 stars Great bang for the buck!!   December 20, 2008
I bought this bag a couple of months ago as I wanted a camera bag that also held a laptop. For the price, it is just a wonderfully designed backpack with a lot of room to easily put a dSLR with around 4-5 lenses and accessories. In addition it has a huge laptop compartment that easily fits my 15" mac book pro along with a couple of magazines and another huge pocket to hold a laptop charger, even holds my Amazon Kindle and some pretty big bose headphones, iPod, cables, memory cards, a memory card reader, camera manual and the camera battery charger. The shoulder arms of the bag are nicely padded, easily adjustable and are strong and durable. The bag also has small front pockets to put in an mp3 player, keys, filters, memory cards and so on.

The camera pocket is nicely cushioned and easy to reach if you want to quickly grab the camera. However, if you put too many lenses and other accessories, getting the camera out can be a challenge. Also, the design of the bag could be a bit sleeker, more aerodynamic like some of the other kata backpacks. There are no side straps to hook in a tripod, but these are just some minor issues. Overall, it is just a great backpack which looks and feels sturdy and durable and for the price, it is a steal. There are very few backpacks out there that hold both dSLRs and laptops and this is right up there as one of the best in its class!!

5 out of 5 stars Exactly what I was looking for   December 17, 2008

I am delighted with this intelligently designed bag.

So far, I have packed the following items:

* MacBook Pro, 15"
* Nikon D60 camera body with a lens attached
* 70-200 zoom lens
* Nikon SB-600 external flash
* Panasonic TZ5, compact camera
* Panasonic FZ18 camera (larger body than a compact, but but not as large as an SLR)
* All of my cables and chargers

I have plenty of room left over for a notebook, pencils/pens, a light jacket, and maybe a paperback book.

The pack is easy on my back and shoulders. I am a petite female, 5'4", and the straps easily adjusted for a comfortable fit.

Another plus is that the backpack looks more like a backpack than a camera or laptop bag. It doesn't scream to thieves that it's loaded with electronic equipment.

The construction is sturdy. There may be more rugged bags out there, but they aren't worth the extra money for me.

I agree with several other reviews that a side pocket or a bigger water bottle holder would help. There are some side straps, though, that will let me attach an external bottle holder.
