Stunning Photo View, weak software January 8, 2009 I purchased this for a Christmas gift 2008 and was pleased with the visual quality of projected photos (for high resolution pics downsized to the 1024x768 max resolution size). Colors are good and fairly close to those seen on a calibrated laptop monitor. However I found the software to load the photos to be a bit clunky. What worked best for me was to resize (downsize) the photos on my laptop (I loaded 600+) and then transfer them to the frame's internal memory over the included usb connector. I ran into various problems in trying to read from either a oompact flash or sd card - issues with the frame slots for the card, or possibly some compatability issues with Vista, not really sure. Overall I was happy with the product but would have liked the software to be more flexibile and bug-free.
Frame will not turn on January 8, 2009 I was given this frame as a Christmas gift and loved it the first day. Then after spending hours loading my photos it would not turn on any more. I called customer service and after a 35 minute wait I was told it was the power cord. They sent out a new cord a week later and guess what?! The frame will still not turn on. Now I have a dead frame with all my photos on it. I tried customer service again and after a 30 minute wait I gave up. Sure the frame looks nice but it does not show photos so whats the point?
Couldn't be easier... January 8, 2009 This was the easiest digital frame to use. After purchasing and returning two other brands the Smartparts digital frame was the best for what I needed. I have music in mp3 and CD format, it played both without any special formating. The pictures were clear and it was very easy to load and play. We purchased a 4GB memory card and easily transferred music and years worth of pictures for us to enjoy anytime. The kids love seeing their pictures pop up. Well worth the money. I can't wait to transfer our movies and include them in the rotation.
This Smartparts frame is dumb! January 8, 2009 Recently we purchased the Smartparts 15-inch digital frame (SP15MW) as an update for a Smartparts 10.4-inch digital frame (SP104MW); The 10.4-inch frame had great features, but we wanted a larger display. We eventually learned (after giving the 10.4-inch frame away) the 15-inch frame features were dumb, not smart. The first problem we encountered was the USB port is located on the bottom of the frame and provides room for a USB thumbdrive no longer than 1.75-inches overall when the frame is sitting on a table top which is the way we planned to use it; our shortest thumbdrive is 2.25-inches. Of course, you can always drill a one inch diameter hole in the table for a thumbdrive or more easily support the frame with two books leaving space between the books for the thumbdrive. (The port on our 10.4 inch frame was on the LH side; hence; there was no need for two books.) However, the worst is yet to be reported. The thumbdrive we set up to use with our 10.4-inch frame contains over 2000 pictures plus music files and is organized in about two dozen folders by subject, which could be accessed by individual folder for display via a slideshow; the default was display all. The 15-inch frame doesn't know about folders(!?) and is limited to display all; if you want to find a particular picture you must paw thru your pictures six thumbnails at a time or just wait for it to be displayed in slideshow mode.To somewhat circumvent this problem, we put our pictures on five SD memory cards with a main category for each. Due to the limitations of the 15-inch frame even more cards are desirable. One last gotcha. Our music files are virtually all in MP3 format which was fine for the 10.4-inch frame; however the 15-inch frame reads music in only WMA format! The Smartparts 15-inch digital frame (SP15MW) is totally unsatisfactory for our purposes. Hence, it doesn't even deserve one star.
Good Price, Great Product January 7, 2009 I got this frame for my in-laws for Christmas. I have never had any experience with digital frames, so I'm have nothing to compare it to. But I was pleased with the picture quality it offered at the price I paid.
There were a few pictures that I had to brighten up with my photo software before downloading them because it seems that the frame shows a little dark. I also wish that it had a USB cable included since my in-laws don't have a SD card reader in their computer.
But overall it is a good frame at a good price.
